RIDICULOUS ROSE
by Shel Silverstein
Paraphrase
In this poem, Rose’s
mother tells her not to eat with her fingers. Rose, humorously taking the
instruction too literally, decides to eat with her toes instead.
Attitude
The tone of the poem is
light-hearted and playful. Silverstein portrays Rose as a mischievous child who
follows her mother’s instruction in an unexpected way. I feel amused by Rose interpreting
the rule.
Shift
The shift is when Rose
takes her mother’s instruction not to eat with her fingers . Instead of using
her fingers or utensils as expected, she humorously decides to eat with her
toes in the last line.
Opinion
I think
"Ridiculous Rose" is a fun poem. It captures the sense of childhood playfulness
and the humorous ways kids can take instructions.
Recommmendation
I would recommend this
poem to friends, especially those who enjoy humurous poem.
